Main Street Delaware brings you a holiday to remember!
Decorate Downtown Delaware!
With your help, Main Street Delaware hopes to decorate the city for the Christmas season with new banners, garland wraps, bows, and wreaths on the more than 90 lampposts that illuminate the historic downtown. Tax-deductible contributions are being accepted now to “Decorate Downtown Delaware,” with the hope of adding the decorations in three phases beginning this year with festive red-and-green lamppost banners.
Donations of any amount are appreciated and will be collected during all upcoming First Friday events, including the July 5 “Chalk It Up for Freedom” celebration. Donations also may be made online at www.mainstreetdelaware.com or mailed to: Main Street Delaware 20 E. Winter St., Delaware, OH 43015. Checks should be payable to Main Street Delaware Inc. with the gift designated for holiday decorations.
Also to support the campaign, Main Street Delaware is selling commemorative Christmas ornaments depicting the birthplace of 19th U.S. President and Delaware native Rutherford B. Hayes. The ornaments are $20 each and will be available at First Fridays and Farmers’ Markets, the Main Street Delaware office, and downtown businesses including Breakaway Cycling, Coffeeology, The Greater Gouda, and Toujours.
Based on current prices, each lamppost banner purchased for the downtown will cost approximately $30, with $2,500 needed to buy enough banners to blanket the entire historic district. The cost for each garland wrap and bow – phase two of the Decorate Downtown Delaware campaign – is $54, with $5,000 in donations needed to complete the project. The cost for each wreath – phase three – is estimated at $200, with $18,000 in contributions needed to decorate the downtown.
“We’re excited about this campaign to help beautify the city for the holidays,” said Susie Bibler, Main Street Delaware’s executive director. “I’m especially grateful to the forward-thinking community residents and Main Street volunteers who helped to conceive and launch the Decorate Downtown Delaware effort. It’s going to be beautiful!”
Home for the Holidays weekend will be December 6 – 8, 2019!
